Janet was born 6 January 1809 in Hobkirk, Roxburghshire, Scotland and was baptized 26 March 1809. She married George Ormiston, the son of one of the early settlers of Rossie, and had two daughters and one son:

1. Sarah
2. Robert D.
3. Isabelle

1) Sarah married William McKean (A brother to her cousin's husband Wallace McKean) and had one son. She died in 1910 in Gouveneur, NY.

2) Robert D. married Josette Wait and had three children. He died in 1895 in Gouveneur, NY.

3) Isabelle did not marry and died in 1864 at the age of 20. She was buried in Oxbow, NY.

ORMISTON.-In this village, Feb 21^st, 1886,

Janet Ormiston, mother of Mrs. Wm. McKean.

Aged 77 years.

The family lived in a gray sandstone house near Oxbow on a 180-acre farm originally purchased about 1837. George Ormiston died in 1849 at the age of 46. Janet sold her interest in the farm to her 21-year-old son, Robert D. Ormiston on January 14, 1862. Two years later, Robert and his wife Josette sold it to Alexander Dixon of the town of Antwerp. Janet died 21 February 1886 at the age of 77. George died in 1849 at the age of 46 in Rossie, NY. She and George are buried in the Old Oxbow Cemetery.
